    It is one of these products and service you may not look forward to, but knew it was coming: A subscription model to Microsoft Office. Microsoft envisions that more and more users will not own a copy of Microsoft Office in the future anymore, but rent it and provide the company with recurring revenue stream every year, instead a onetime fee.

    This is intended to be the last part in this series and I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about a number of related if diverse topics. I would like to look at what I would like to see in the next version, and talk about when and where I intend to use Linq to SQL and other ORMs such as NHibernate.

    Sandcastle is the API documentation tool used internally by Microsoft for the .NET platform. It is being offered under the terms of the Microsoft Public License. This is a relaxed license that asks for little more than patent protection and attribution, making it suitable for integrating into build systems and the like.

    There is a lot of discussion around Microsoft’s object-relational efforts right now. There are a couple of key issues:&amp;#xD;
Is Microsoft really committed to Linq to SQL, or is it shifting its attention to Entity Framework? &amp;#xD;
Is Entity Framework being pushed out before it is ready? A “vote of no confidence” open letter along those lines has been signed by over 300 including more than a dozen MVPs (Most Valued Professionals), experts in Microsoft data technologies.

This blog is not about Quotes but SQL Server, but little fun never hurts. SQL Server is product of Microsoft, which Bill Gates is Chairman of, so indirectly this article is about SQL Server.

    This continues a short series of posts about getting started with PowerShell … with a few tips about things you can do to keep your PowerShell profile safe and organized. Your “profile” is the script that is automatically loaded when you start up PowerShell. Really, I should say that your profile is the set of scripts which are loaded by default when you start up PowerShell. “By default” because you can always skip loading them by passing the -NoProfile switch to PowerShell.exe, and a set because PowerShell does, in fact, attempt to load at least four scripts when you run it.

    Bill Gates has pulled off one of the greatest hacks in technology and business history, by turning Microsoft&#039;s success into a force for social responsibility. Imagine imposing a tax on every corporation in the developed world, collecting $100 per white-collar worker per year, and then directing one third of the proceeds to curing AIDS and malaria. That, effectively, is what Bill Gates has done.

    Of all the ware Microsoft churns out from its sweatshop of &quot;lightning bolt, lightning bolt&quot; nerds, Windows is the one most inexorably tied to the public image of the company. Although we agree that Vista could have used a bit more time shoved back into the silicon womb for some feature buffing and bug fixing, it&#039;s not nearly as bad as people say.

    Microsoft is aware of a recent escalation in a class of attacks targeting Web sites that use Microsoft ASP and ASP.NET technologies but do not follow best practices for secure Web application development. These SQL injection attacks do not exploit a specific software vulnerability, but instead target Web sites that do not follow secure coding practices for accessing and manipulating data stored in a relational database.

    There are over a dozen people working at our fair Gizmodo, but as a Windows user, I&#039;m in a definite minority. I still rock XP, and I&#039;m pretty happy with that. Why haven&#039;t I switched to Macs? Plenty of reasons, not least of which being that I&#039;m just too smart to switch to a Mac.That&#039;s right, I&#039;m too smart for Macs.

So, in this part of this series we&#039;ll take a look at some very simple MSI interop, giving us a basic data provider for MSI databases, mirrored after the typical structure of .NET data providers like System.Data.SqlClient.

    <author>unknown@DZone.com</author>
    <content:encoded>
    I don&#039;t know why this keeps happening so often lately, but at least in the last few months, Microsoft kept losing various lawsuits and being forced to pay various amounts to other companies for patent infringements, but the hardest hits came from the European Comission. Anyway, fortunately for the Redmond giant, today is not about the EC. Unfortunately, the amount they have to pay is a bit more than just pocket money, because a federal judge just ordered them to pay Alcatel-Lucent no less than half a billion dollars!
